Got Ticket in Detroit 4 Urinating In Public Off People Mover 36th District Court date – Is This A Crime or A Ticket?

Home » General » Got Ticket in Detroit 4 Urinating In Public Off People Mover 36th District Court date – Is This A Crime or A Ticket?

I got caught peeing off a People Mover platform after a Tiger’s game downtown Detroit and got a Urinating in Public indecent exposure ticket from the cop, now I have a court date in the mail and its for an “arraignment” at 8:30 am.  I thought this was just a ticket, but someone told me if I have an arraignment its a crime like indecent exposure criminal offense or something?  Is this like a misdemeanor or just a ticket I can pay?  Will it go on my record?  I work for a company that did a background check when I got my job and I don’t want to lose my job for something so stupid.  There was no bathroom anywhere and I had to go so bad I was gonna burst I wasnt trying to be obnoxious or anything.  Can the lawyers at your law firm make this go away, and do I have to go to court?

Urinating in Public is a criminal misdemanor charge in the city of Detroit, not a traffic ticket. Like all criminal offenses in Michigan, this criminal charge will go on you record. However, it is unclear whether you are being charged with urinating in public, or indecent exposre, which makes a huge difference.

In your case, if you are charges with Urinating in Public in Detroit, then this is a far less serious offense than indecent exposure.

In Michigan, the misdemeanor offense of indecent exposure could require a convicted defendant to be registration on the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry, in addition to possible jail time and other penalties.

Indecent Exposure in Michigan is a criminal defense defined by statute as follows:

    750.335a Indecent exposure; violation; penalty.
    Sec. 335a.
    (1) A person shall not knowingly make any open or indecent exposure of his or her person or of the person of another.
    (2) A person who violates subsection (1) is guilty of a crime, as follows:
    (a) Except as provided in subdivision (b) or (c), the person is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 1 year, or a fine of not more than $1,000.00, or both.
    (b) If the person was fondling his or her genitals, pubic area, buttocks, or, if the person is female, breasts, while violating subsection (1), the person is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 2 years or a fine of not more than $2,000.00, or both.
    (c) If the person was at the time of the violation a sexually delinquent person, the violation is punishable by imprisonment for an indeterminate term, the minimum of which is 1 day and the maximum of which is life.

  2. Why do you go on the sex offender registry for urinating in public??? Is it because it happened in front of women or kids or something?
