Home » General » LOOKING FOR A LAW FIRM TO HELP WITH MY SUSPENDED MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE; NEED A LAWYER TO CLEAR SUSPENSION ON MY MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE

I’m not sure if any lawyer or law firm can help me but my Michigan driver’s license is suspended or revoked not sure which because I didn’t pay my driver’s responsibility fees because of traffic tickets on my driving record. I didn’t know that no proof of insurance cost money with the state of Michigan for driver’s responsibility fees? Since when did that happen? Do I need an attorney to clear this driver’s license suspension in Michigan?

Can any attorney at your law firm help me with my suspended Michigan driver’s license? Almost all the posts I read on this blog deal with revoked driver’s licenses and driver’s license appeals and stuff and it seems like your law firm is the best for that but what about my case where my suspended Michigan driver’s license is from not paying my driver responsibility fees???? Please help!

In short, all you can do is pay your driver’s responsibility fees to clear your Michigan driver’s license suspension, it is not really an issue a lawyer can help with. In your case there is nothing any Michigan driver’s license attorney can really do because your suspension is administrative based on your failure to pay the driver’s responsibility fees as required by Michigan law.

Effective October 1, 2003, Michigan approved legislation and enacted a the Michigan’s Driver Responsibility Law. This new law imposes ADDITIONAL monetary driver’s responsibility fees for drivers who are convicted of specific offenses, and for drivers or accumulate seven (7) or more points on their master driving record. Under this new law, even traffic tickets such as No Proof of Insurance, which do not carry any “points” that are assessed against your master driving record, carries with it a drivers responsibility fee of $200.00 for two (2) consecutive years, in addition to the fines and costs imposed by the court. A link to some the fines under the Michigan’s Driver Responsibility Law is below:

You have no choice but to pay these fines. The Michgan Secretary of State will sometimes work with you on a monthly payment plan for these driver’s license fees, but they are strict about you being timely in all your monthly installment payments. Again, this is something you must do, as a Michigan driver’s license lawyer really has no influence over money owed to the State.

It is POSSIBLE, however, that the attorneys at Canu Torrice Law may be able to re-open the case or cases that caused these fees to become assessed against you, and work out a plea that will allow you to avoid payment of these fees, but that depends on the facts of your case and most importantly the Michigan court that has your case. Until you pay your fees, or until a Canu Torrice Law attorney can reopen your cases to clear the suspensions from your Michigan driver’s license, your license will remain suspended.

Setting aside traffic tickets and reopening cased for other minor misdemeanor driving offenses in Michigan is something we can often times help you with, but time is not your friend so make sure you call my office today for a free consultation.
